Charles (Dick) and Dorothy Reeves
(Winner of Members' Showcase: November 2007)
7310 Hatton Cross, Williamsburg, VA 23188
Dick and Co-Author Dorothy Reeves (at left in photo) receive an Outstanding Service Award from James City County for their new book “Adoption . . .a New Step in Life.”
Created at the request of the county Division of Social Services, the book is about victims of child abuse and neglect who are taken from their parents and placed in foster care.
It is hoped these children eventually will be returned to their families. If return is not possible, parental rights may be terminated and the children put up for adoption.
Included in the book are stories written by adopted children. Adoptive parents describe their experiences. The roles of social services and the courts are explained and experts in child development and behavior discuss their specialties.
The book is designed to provide information for children and adults, particularly those interested in becoming or in training as foster or adoptive parents. If you wish to obtain a copy, click here to email Dick or Dorothy for instructions.
Other social service divisions in Virginia have inquired about using the book in their programs.
